$2.7 million to help the local press on the web

2.7 M$ to help the local press on the web

An investment of more than 2.7 M$ will enable 54 print media outlets, including Métro, to continue their digital shift. It’s Mrs Nathalie Roy, Minister of Culture and Communications, who made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

The sums granted will give the media great latitude in their choice of projects. The redesign of a Web platform, the implementation of a mobile application, the integration of new journalistic practices, such as videos and podcasts, are all initiatives that could be carried out.

By supporting our media and our journalists, we wish to contribute to the evolution of their business model in a sector weakened by the repercussions of the news technologies.

Nathalie Roy in a press release

The funds come from the assistance plan to support the written media of Quebec, which provides support of nearly $250 million over 5 years.

“It is essential to invest in these media so that the population continues to have varied and verified sources of information,” said the Minister of Culture and Communications.

Here are the companies organizations that will benefit from the second call for projects under the Digital Adaptation Assistance Program for print media companies for the 2021-2022 fiscal year:
