6th edition of the Dynasty Gala: honoring black culture

The Dynasty gala, which each year aims to reward Quebec personalities from black communities who have distinguished themselves in arts and culture, was in its sixth edition, Saturday evening. Fourteen personalities working in the fields of music, comedy, visual arts and television were chosen during a ceremony at the Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts.

As in previous editions , the public was invited to vote for their favorite personality. Tai Laguerre, who had a huge success with the launch of the concept reality show Occupation Hood, was the audience's choice at the gala with a comfortable lead in percentage of votes.

Posted on the Instagram platform, Occupation Hoodconsisted of a Sunday meeting that featured young single people from diverse backgrounds. The show appealed to a large audience attracting over 28,000 live viewers each episode. Tai was also voted Web Personality of the Year at the 2022 Dynasty Media Awards on Saturday.

The ceremony also gave rise to several emotional moments during the tributes paid to the deceased Don Harley Fils-Aimé, social entrepreneur, artist and pillar of the black community, as well as Karim Ouellet, French-speaking singer-songwriter.

Yama Laurent, winner of La Voix 2018, delivered a vibrant tribute to these two artists. Also during this evening, tribute prizes aimed at rewarding the career and the exceptional commitment of members of black communities who contribute to the influence of their profession were awarded.

For the first time this year, the Dynastie Foundation awarded the Dynastie Icon Prize to a personality who has distinguished himself by his audacity and dynamism and who has distinguished himself by original or large-scale achievements. Frédéric Pierre was awarded this prize, which crowns his entire career and “his commitment to creating a more inclusive and representative film and television industry”.

Lamine Touré, founding president of the Nuits d'Afrique and Vues d'Afrique festivals, is the recipient of the Dynastie 2022 grand prize. This prize honors “a personality recognized as a pioneer in his sphere of activity and whose extent of his commitment and his entire career have contributed to the influence of his industry”.

Comedian and web personality Preach kicked off the evening while DJ artists Sweet La Rock, Kelly Krow, Alan Prater, Lost, Djely Tapa, Yama Laurent and Zach Zoya performed offered musical performances.
