Claude Plante La Tribune MAGOG A 71-year-old driver and another 17-year-old will have to pay large sums in fines for having driven at high speed on Highway 10.

Over the past few days, the police from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) from the Estrie motorway station intervened with these two motorists regarding excessive speeding.

On October 30, around 2:15 p.m., a first driver was detected at 169 km / h, in the Austin area.

The 71-year-old man's driving license has been suspended for a period of 30 days, since it was not his first offense in terms of excessive speeding, says Aurélie Guindon, spokesperson for the SQ.

This offense earned her a ticket of $ 1,309 and 14 demerit points, she said.

The next day, around 4:15 p.m., a young motorist was detected at 168 km / h, in the Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton sector. “This offense earned the driver, a young man of 17, a statement of $ 958 and 14 demerit points, as well as the suspension of his probationary license for a period of seven days,” adds Ms. Guindon.

The Sûreté du Québec points out that speed is one of the first causes of fatal collisions to occur on the roads of Quebec.
