A body recovered from the St. Lawrence River
The body of a man was recovered Saturday morning from the St. Lawrence River, near the Jacques-Cartier wharf in Old Montreal.< /p>
“A call was made around 8:30 a.m. to 911 by a passerby to report the presence of a body in the St. Lawrence River,” says Caroline Chèvrefils, public relations officer for the City of Montreal (SPVM).
The police, who located the body in the river, requested the assistance of the Montreal firefighters to recover the victim, adds Ms. Chèvrefils.
The identity of the victim is still unknown, police report.
“There is no indication that it was a criminal event” , adds the SPVM. The inquest will be transferred to the coroner's office.
