TORONTO – A painting by Pablo Picasso will be auctioned in Toronto on Wednesday night, alongside five works by Jean Paul Riopelle and other paintings of canadian artists.
The House Heffel has indicated that the “Woman in hat” by Picasso will be the masterpiece of the sale the fall, with an estimated sales ranging from $ 8 million to $10 million.
This oil on canvas painting, created in 1941, is a representation of the photographer Dora Maar, who, during his relationship with Picasso, was the main subject of her series “Woman crying”.
Five works of the Québécois Jean-Paul Riopelle will also be offered at auction, including ‘Composition/no title”, that could be sold between 950,000 and $ 1.25 million $.
Among other canadian works in sales, we note a painting by Emily Carr painted in 1912, representing a village of First Nations in British Columbia.

Comic actor Steve Martin will sell one of the canvases of Lawren Harris of his collection. “Mountain Sketch LXX”, performed in 1928 by the painter of the Group of Seven, is expected to garner between $ 300,000 and $500,000.
Three canvases of A. Y. Jackson from the collection of the Museum of fine arts of Ontario will also be sold to the highest bidder.
