A collective wants to block COP15 in Montreal
COP15 will be held from December 7 to 19, 2022 at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal.
The 15th Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) is only “window dressing”, denounces the anti-capitalist and environmentalist Coalition collective against COP15. She calls for blocking the holding of the event, which will be held from December 7 to 19 in Montreal.
Several demonstrations are planned, notably on December 7, 9 and 10, when more than 6,500 students have given themselves a strike mandate to protest against “false solutions” to ecological crises.< /p>
The coalition is particularly opposed to the plan to transform 30% of the earth's surface into protected areas since according to the current proposal, “the indigenous peoples who have inhabited the territory for millennia are forcibly expelled”. Instead, the collective calls on the various actors present at COP15 to recognize the authority of indigenous communities over their territories, where 80% of the world's biodiversity is found, as the best method to protect biodiversity.
The Anti-Capitalist and Ecologist Coalition Against COP15 is “a coalition bringing together many people from trade union, student and community backgrounds who are united in an anti-capitalist, anti-colonial and anti-imperialist mobilization aimed at blocking the holding of COP15”.
