A man barricaded himself in his apartment in Pointe-St-Charles
A man who barricaded himself in his apartment on Sunday evening in the Pointe-Saint-Charles sector caused the closure of the Charlevoix metro for more than six hours.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) was deployed to the scene around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, after receiving a warrant to’ arrest in a threat file. The team was concerned that the man might be armed.
A wide security perimeter has been established in the area of rue Center, near rue D’argençon.
The police initially tried to negotiate with the man in person as well as by telephone, but without success. The SPVM tactical intervention group was then dispatched to the scene in an attempt to control the man.
Firefighters were also deployed on site. The police also feared that the man might set the building on fire.
Around 9 p.m., the police finally succeeded in establishing contact with the man in question. The latter decided to collaborate and the intervention took place without any resistance. The Charlevoix metro station also resumed service around 9 p.m.
The man finally had a pellet gun in his possession. His court date is not yet known.
