Black entrepreneurs have an extra voice thanks to the new bilingual podcast Startup & Prosper. The goal: to give them more space and encourage them to take theirs… with pride.
The podcast will include six episodes of 45 to 60 minutes and will be officially broadcast from February 28, at two episodes per month. These will feature different Black entrepreneurs from Canada, while addressing key topics for them.
The podcast host, Mona-Lisa Prosper.
The first episode, premiering on Spotify on February 23, focuses on the connection between the Black Lives Matter movement and the development of business opportunities.
Among the other themes discussed with the guests: economic immigration, militant commitment, access to financing and financial development.
“As we do not represent the majority, if we wants to talk about our place within the entrepreneurial community, it comes with these elements,” explains podcast host and businesswoman Mona-Lisa Prosper.
A missing space
According to Ms. Prosper, black entrepreneurship remains unknown in society since few spaces are created to talk about it .
She believes that initiatives like hers are part of the solution.
“Outside of the very broad inclusion or diversity , there are still a lot of people who don't even understand why it's important to talk about it. It is however important to normalize the thing”, she summarizes.
Three episodes of the podcast will be presented in English in the coming weeks.
You can listen to Startup &Prosper on YouTube, Apple and Spotify.
