Sébastien Lajoie La Tribune Le Phœnix de Sherbrooke must suspend its activities until further notice, following the confirmation of a positive case for COVID-19 in one of its players this morning, La Tribune has learned.
The Sherbrooke Phoenix have faced the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada twice, last weekend, in Sherbrooke and Montreal. According to several sources, around twenty players from the Montreal team have tested positive for COVID-19.
All Phoenix players were tested Tuesday afternoon.
In addition, Champlain College Cougars players, who play in the Quebec College Hockey League, will likely also have to take the screening test, since the player in question trained with them at the start of the week.
The Cougars are waiting for the indications to follow from the Public Health of Estrie.
The duration of the quarantine that will have to be observed at the Phoenix has still not been determined, but we can certainly deduce that the Sherbrooke team will be off at least until October 16. This break could even extend until October 20.
Only one Armada player is said to have symptoms, among all the positive cases identified within the team.
No player at the Sherbrooke Phoenix would show symptoms of COVID-19.
Two games against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies are on the Phoenix schedule this weekend, Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
