A Quebec Fund for loss and damage caused by climate change must be set up, says the Parti Quebecois. The Member of Parliament for the Magdalen Islands, Joël Arseneau, calls on the Minister of the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change, Benoit Charette, to act quickly in this regard.

This appeal to act occurs as many in Montreal demonstrate against the holding of the 27th United Nations climate conference (COP27) being held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

Mr. Arseneau argues that this Fund will support southern countries and vulnerable states suffering “loss and damage” caused by climate change, such as desertification and erosion, he believes.

“This is a great opportunity to position Quebec as a leader in terms of financing loss and damage related to climate change. We must send a strong signal and move forward now: the planet can wait no longer,” says Joël Arseneau in a press release.
