A sex offender contacted his victims via Tinder
After arresting Samuel Moderie yesterday, accused of sexual assault, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SVPM) is looking for other potential victims who may have could cross paths with the 28-year-old man.
Investigators have strong reason to believe that the individual could have had other victims. The SPVM invites “anyone who has been a victim or who knows someone who could have been a victim of Samuel Moderie” to contact the authorities in order to file an official complaint.
Samuel Moderie is a French-speaking man with white skin, who measures 1.78 m and weighs 80 kg. He has brown hair and eyes and tattoos on his chest and right arm.
The man allegedly sexually assaulted five women in separate events between July 2022 and January 2023. He appeared at the Montreal courthouse today. He faces charges of sexual assault and administering a noxious substance. The man remains detained.
Trapped on dating sites
Samuel Moderie used dating sites to trick his victims. He would go to their home and administer drugs to them. Once they were unconscious, he sexually assaulted them before stealing their property.
Such events would have occurred in Montreal, McMasterville and Saint-Jérôme, according to the SPVM. The assailant was arrested thanks to a collective effort by investigators from the SPVM Sexual Assault Section, the Richelieu-Saint-Laurent Police Intermunicipal Board, the Saint-Jérôme Police Department and the Sûreté du Québec.
The GESC mobilized
Since several victims are involved in this case, the management structure for the investigation of serial crimes (GECS ) was mobilized.
“It is a unified command structure in which Quebec police services work in partnership to identify crimes committed by predators and to arrest them,” details the SPVM. The serial crime investigation management structure is coordinated by the SQ.
