A fire broke out Monday morning in the back of a tanker truck full of heating oil. A rapid response Service for fire protection of the City of Québec has avoided the explosion of the truck.

The incident occurred around 6: 45am in front of the 1095, rue Fiset in Maizerets, Quebec city. Firefighters have managed to contain the fire before the oil tank is reached.

The first unit on scene confirms the fire without risk of spreading to a building. Firefighters used foam to extinguish hydrocarbon fire. They were then hosed down the compartment with oil to cool it.

Socks and granules have been applied in order to absorb the small amount of oil spilled. The vehicle had 7000 litres of oil out of a possible 22 000. The damages are limited to the tanker truck, which was parked at this location.

About 20 firefighters were present for the intervention. No person has been injured during the procedure. The fire was probably caused by a mechanical malfunction.

The floor will be cleaned by a private company.
