Book Battle 2022: Vote for the book the whole country should read

The Book Battle contest is back!

Five novels, five fighters, five regions, but only one winner! Again this year, the public can choose from five Canadian literary works, each defended by a personality from the cultural community, to elect the big winner of the 2022 National Book Fight, which will be held from May 2 to 6.

The five novels chosen as well as the identity of the five combatants representing various regions of the country were unveiled Monday morning by host Marie-Louise Arsenault at the microphone of Pénélope McQuade at Radio-Canada.

Representative indigenous territories, the specialist in indigenous affairs at Radio-Canada and lecturer at UQAM Isabelle Picard will fight for the work of Dawn Dumont La course de Rose (Hannenorak editions).

For his part, the singer of Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire, Serge Brideau, will try to defend the first volume of L'aware: labirth d'une dynastieby Vanessa Léger (La Grande Mare editions) for the Atlantic region.

Actress Charlotte Aubin will represent the Quebec region with the novel Tout est ori by Paul Serge Forest (VLB editor).

As for the province of Ontario, it will be represented by the work Le vol de l’ange by Daniel Poliquin (editions du Boréal), which will be defended by the author Blaise Ndala.

Finally, the artistic director of the Alberta Ballet since 2002, Jean Grand-Maître, chose Radiationsby Ying Chen (Leméac publisher) for the West of the country.

What is the book that the whole country should read? In a competition that is both intense and playful, the five fighters will have to debate using ingenuity, persuasion and even seduction in order to convince the public that their choice is the right one.

Until May 6, the public is invited to vote for their favorite book among the five proposed to them, on radio-canada.ca/combat. It is on the program The more the merrier, the more we read!, led by host Marie-Louise Arsenault and broadcast weekdays at 1 p.m., that we will be able to experience the essentials of the 5th edition of the Combat national des livres.

Participants will have the chance to win an e-reader and a $2,000 gift card from leslibraires.ca. In addition, the winner will receive personalized advice from a bookseller from the Les libraires network for 12 months!
