“Celeste” by Cirque Éloize: from high aerobatics to the stars
A number from the “Celeste” show
Let’s be honest: we were initially far from convinced by the mystical concept of this Cirque Éloize show. Masked performers approaching the audience in silence to cause discomfort? No thanks. And what about the erotic-esoteric plot reminiscent of Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut?
Fortunately, the sequel made us see stars thanks to breathtaking acrobatic performances including hoop, pole, balance, juggling, breakdance (accompanied by mind-blowing beatboxing by Andre Gibson!), unicycle and even roller skating!
Between all these high-flying feats, the animation by Matthew Richardson, a versatile artist who masters both the Cyr wheel and the art of stand up, entertains us happily.
Coating each number with her powerful voice, singer Coral Egan brings warmth to the whole of this variety show which skilfully combines circus, music and humor.
Celeste is presented at the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth until June.
