Its latest version, launched at the end of November, is particularly successful in that the robot is even able to conduct a real exchange with a human interlocutor.
The British daily newspaper The Guardianeven reports that academics who have tested the tool by generating answers to exam questions judged that ChatGPT would achieve marks comparable to those of a bachelor's degree. Programmers, meanwhile, have used the tool to solve coding problems and the robot delivered an answer to them in seconds, according to the Ouest-France newspaper.
This tool, while powerful, is not infallible. On the home page, OpenAI specifies that the chatbot may generate “incorrect information” or “produce dangerous instructions or biased content”.
Worrying performance
As much as it surprises, the robot's performance also gives some people a cold sweat, to the point of reviving the great debate on the risks associated with artificial intelligence technologies (IA).
Some fear the dissemination of false information, for example, or the possibility of creating increasingly credible scams.
Others fear that certain professions, such as journalists, teachers, playwrights, advertisers or computer programmers, whose function is to produce content, will one day be replaced by this kind of intelligent robot.
Beacons would however have been put in place to prevent abuse. ChatGPT says it refuses to take sides, for example, on opinions or controversial topics.
“These computer programs can be useful for certain tasks, but they will never completely replace human relations,” adds OpenAI.

The current version of the software is freely available on the web, but it must register first. To do this, you must submit a certain amount of information, such as name and telephone number, during a double check. In addition, a version 4 would be in the pipeline, but has not yet been officially announced.
