Collision in a daycare center: driver arrested, a potentially deliberate act
The driver of the bus that drove into the Sainte-Rose educational daycare center in Laval has been arrested, says François Bonnardel, Minister of Public Security. The event took place around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Twelve people were injured, among them eight were transported by ambulance. Seven children were transported to Sainte-Justine and the Cité-de-la-Santé, an adult was transported to the Sacré-Coeur-de-Montréal hospital. Among the children, three were in cardiopulmonary arrest. The other children were evacuated to a nearby school or went home directly.
It would be a deliberate act, according to police officers consulted by Radio-Canada. Municipal sources consulted by Métro agree.
The driver stripped naked after driving into the daycare center, a witness said. At least four people then subdued the man who was screaming nonstop. He had worked for the Société de transport de Laval (STL) for about ten years.
The daycare center is located at the end of a long alley, itself located in the roundabout of a dead end. It welcomes between 80 children from 0 to 5 years old. It’s the class of butterflies, which occupy the oldest, which has been affected.
