Concordia University has announced its PLAN/NET-ZÉRØ project, with the main objective of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
How to achieve it , the rector of the university, Graham Carr, wants the two campuses of the university to be transformed into living laboratories.
“The open laboratory concept will bring together SMEs, world-renowned companies such as Hydro-Québec, financial institutions, researchers from other universities as well as young companies from the Center d innovation and entrepreneurship District 3 of Concordia or Ax-C of Montreal”, he explains.
In addition to trying to stimulate innovation, Concordia will reduce its emissions related to supply and transportation. As the buildings are the university’s first source of pollution, they will be at the heart of the first stage of the carbon neutrality plan.
Indeed, the buildings will be modernized and the use of electricity will be reduced. optimized. The university also hopes ultimately to produce its own green energy.
Mr. Carr hopes Concordia will inspire other universities to adopt a plan to become carbon neutral, including through the innovations he hopes to see on campus.
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante praised the PLAN /NET-ZÉRØ of Concordia, noting that “this transition initiative is one of the most ambitious in the world” in a Twitter post.
