Confusion in the MRC de la Matanie
MATANE – The confusion in the MRC de La Matanie around the employment of its director general, Line Ross. The mayors Jerome Landry and Andrew Turcotte sent a summons by a bailiff for an extraordinary meeting of the council of mayors, which was set at Tuesday. However, in opening the meeting, noting that the room was filled with citizens, the mayor Landry has decided to lift the assembly. The division was palpable.
“As I consider that this matter is confidential, I request the closure of the assembly”, launched by the mayor of Matane, Jerome Landry. “You have to move them all in there for nothing?” asked the prefect Denis Santerre. “Me, I agree not to wash our dirty linen before the world,” retorted the mayor of Saint-Ulric, Pierre Lagacé.
In an interview, Mr. Landry explained that as he had new information, he wanted to be able to discuss it with the mayors. Questioned whether the director-general still had his trust, the elected official has not wanted to meet and parade.
The prefect did not hide his amazement, and his bitterness, not being within the knowledge of the intention of the mayor of Matane. “This is a very important folder, he said. We are talking about a human resource that has been here for 16 years.” For Denis Santerre, this meeting should be public. “You pay for elected municipal officials, he recalled. They are there to give the answers! It does not, the sessions closed. Everything must be transparent.” The elect, who is also mayor of Baie-des-Sables, hope that the abscess may be punctured at the next meeting of the council of mayors, scheduled for 27 November.
The mayor of Grosses-Roches, who had issued the summons on his page Facebook, believed that the subject was of public interest. It shared the disappointment of the people in the room, some of whom had travelled many kilometres to attend this meeting. “I can’t wait for it to finish, things to be worked out and that we begin again to live, expressed Victory Marine. There are many things that advance.” The chosen objects to the dismissal of the employee, municipal. “I have nothing to say against it”, she let it fall.
Two former prefects were keen to share their support with the director general of the RCN. “It’s been 16 years since Ms. Ross works in the MRC and it has a folder blank, said Réginald Desrosiers. There has been no criticism from mayors.” According to him, it is a “false pretense”. In his opinion, the mayor of Matane covets the post of prefect in view of the elections to the prefecture which will be held in a month. “There is also, on the fiscal front, large sums which fall to the economic development of the MRC, and I think that the City of Matane wants to get hold of these monies for economic development at the expense of smaller villages, he advanced. Surely there are things to change to the MRC. But, this is not a coup, we are going to do!”
