COP27: the objectives of the CAQ insufficient according to Québec solidaire

Québec solidaire (QS) is asking the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) to organize a national climate summit. While the Minister of the Environment and the Fight against Climate Change of Quebec, Benoit Charette, is in Egypt on the occasion of COP27, MP Alejandra Zaga-Mendez, responsible for environmental matters, the sum of “up[r] gear”.
Les Solidaires thus asks the government of François Legault to table a new reduction plan, “which makes it possible to reach its own greenhouse gas (GHG) emission target”.

This target to be reviewed and the CAQ measures, according to the left-wing party, “only allow to reach 51 % of its GHG emissions reduction target of 37.5% by 2030, compared to 1990″.
In order to put in place a “coherent plan that puts everyone in action”, the MNA for Verdun proposes to bring together government organizations, unions, municipalities, opposition parties, First Nations and Inuit representatives as well as the business community at this national climate summit.
“The Minister [Charette] must start by correcting what he botched in the previous mandate and quickly come to us with a new plan to fight climate change to achieve Quebec's target, that's the least we can do,” says Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, spokesperson for Québec solidaire.
