COVID-19 testing centers are overflowing in Montreal

COVID-19 screening centers are flooding in Montreal

The Olympic Stadium screening center has reached its screening capacity for the day, since some users are referred to other locations, while a queue of more than two hours is underway at the Chauveau screening clinic.

At the CIUSSS de l & rsquo; Est-de-l & rsquo; Île-de-Montréal, wait times can approach three hours. “Currently, we have wait times that can go up to 3 hours at certain times of the day depending on the screening center. It is therefore useful to anticipate a certain level of waiting given the traffic rate that we have been experiencing for a few days “, explains the communications advisor, Christian Merciari.

The CIUSSS de l'Ouest-de-Île-de-Montréal is operating “at full capacity”. Its normal screening capacity is 1,750 tests per day. “Currently, we are building more than 2,200 to meet the increased demand in recent weeks. We have noticed that many people from the Montérégie come to have a screening test without an appointment in our facilities, ”specifies Hélène Bergeron-Gamache from the communications department of CIUSSS de l'Ouest-de-l'Île-de- Montreal.

In order to avoid long queues, a voucher distribution system has been set up in these screening centers when the traffic increases. The CIUSSS is working to further increase its capacity to screen as many people as possible. It is also possible to consult certain waiting times here.

Recall that the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, has scheduled a press conference this evening, at 6 p.m. on the situation, which he describes as “review”.
