Gaspard Ulliel in “Just the end of the world” by Xavier Dolan

The French actor Gaspard Ulliel died suddenly at 37 years old, after a skiing accident in the Alps. He notably played Louis, the main character of Just the end of the world by Xavier Dolan, released in 2016.

His family made the announcement in a press release sent to AFP by his agent. “Victim of a skiing accident on Wednesday, Gaspard Ulliel died,” said this brief statement.

He was known to the general public for films like A Long Engagement Sunday > (2004) by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Saint Laurent (2014) by Bertrand Bonello.

Adaptation of the play by Jean-Luc Lagarce by the Quebec filmmaker had earned him the César for best actor in 2017. He played a writer there, after twelve years of absence, finding his family, to whom he had come to announce his impending death.

Just the end of the world is a psychological drama co-produced by Quebec (Sons of Manual) and France (MK2 Productions). The feature film shot exclusively in Quebec also stars Nathalie Baye, Léa Seydoux, Marion Cotillard and Vincent Cassel.

Gaspard Ulliel had also filmed alongside big names in French cinema, such as Isabelle Huppert and Gérard Depardieu.

Leading a career in France but also internationally, he was soon to starring in the Marvel Moon Knight series broadcast on Disney+.
