Desgagnés makes a donation history to the Foundation of the Institut maritime du Québec
RIMOUSKI – The Foundation of the Institut maritime du Québec (IMQ) is in receipt of the largest gift ever made since its inception in 1980. The company Desgagnés of Quebec contributes to the fundraising campaign of the organization of Rimouski for the sum of$ 300,000. The announcement was made Monday on the ship “Bella Desgagnés”, docked at its home port of Rimouski.
In his remarks, the president and ceo of Desgagnés was keen to emphasize his modest origins. A native of Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata, Louis-Marie Beaulieu is from a family of thirteen children. After his classical studies in Rivière-du-Loup, the business man has made his university studies in Rimouski. “I’m a regionalist, he said. This is the first reason of the donation to the Foundation of the IMQ. The second reason is for the education; it is necessary to recognize the role of specialized schools, such as the IMQ. The third reason is obvious : Desgagnes was born on the St. Lawrence river. Desgagnés sailed on the St. Lawrence river over the past 150 years. The fourth reason is because IMQ has trained thousands of men and women in the maritime world.”
“This gift demonstrates a clear willingness to Desgagnés to engage in the search for solutions to the challenges of the workforce as we know, has expressed the president of the Foundation, Geneviève Allard, a graduate diploma in scuba diving for the IMQ. To the director of the institution, Desgagnés “sends a strong message to the IMQ and helps to strengthen the feeling of belonging to the maritime community”. “Desgagnés was a strong supporter of our school by awarding grants and by hosting our students in the framework of training courses,” said Melanie Leblanc.
A student of the IMQ has testified of his recent experience on board theAcadia Desgagnés, on which he has completed a training period of two months. “It was a great opportunity, emphasized Nicolas Auger. It has helped me to discover new things. We are lucky to be able to live it!” Up to this day, the campaign of the Foundation of the IMQ, with a duration of five years, has amassed 955 000$ on a goal of$2.5 million.
