Emergency alert lifted at the Montreal Children’s Hospital

The Montreal Children’s Hospital.

The Montreal Children's Hospital is advising the public that its emergency department is resuming normal operations, after announcing yesterday that its emergency departments were unable to treat patients who do not require urgent care ( categories 4 and 5).

Due to a high number of hospitalizations, the Montreal Children's Hospital was unable to receive patients whose “condition is not urgent”. It is the hospital of the McGill University Health Center which explained the situation in a press release Monday morning. “This increase puts a strain on the emergency services, which must take care of patients waiting for a bed,” the hospital said in the press release.

However, the health teams would like to remind you that people experiencing non-severe and non-emergency health problems should turn to resources other than emergency services, at all times.

The Montreal Children’s Hospital therefore asks its patients to consult their doctor, go to a rapid access clinic or call Info-Santé by dialing 8-1-1 if their condition is not urgent (categories 4 and 5).
