Andréanne Beaudry La Tribune The Montcalm pavilion at Mitchell-Montcalm high school was evacuated on Tuesday afternoon to carry out checks after a worrying call. The situation is now under control and school will start again on Wednesday.
“In the afternoon, the school received a call with certain allegations which were worrying by the school administration,” explains the director of the communications department and secretary general at the Center de services scolaire de la Région-de-Sherbrooke, Donald Landry. The management contacted us and contacted the Service de police de Sherbrooke (SPS) and it was agreed together to do some verification of the premises. Finally, it turns out that everything was safe and everything remains safe for the students and staff. Life resumes tomorrow. “
The nature of the allegations has not been confirmed by the CSSRS or the SPS. “The Police Department is going into investigation mode”, comments Mr. Landry.
The evacuation of the students took place during the break between the third and fourth class. “There were about ten minutes left before recess, so we waited for the young people to be able to leave in peace and for things to go well. In terms of security issues, there was not necessarily an immediate threat. We therefore saw fit to wait, ”he explains.
A protocol is established for these “sensitive and worrying situations”. “The basis of that is always to contact the police or firefighters and work in collaboration with them. They are our main partners in these protocols, ”says Landry.
For its part, the SPS posted a message on Facebook a little before 3 p.m. “Information leads public authorities to assess certain things. However, there would be no danger for students and staff, ”says the police force in its publication.
All students and school staff were evacuated.
“We heard a message on the intercom during our class to tell us that there was a bomb threat and that the school was shut down. That the police help management to solve this problem, ”testifies Félix Doyon, a student, to La Tribune.
“They have distressed us,” adds Daphnée Dubé, another student. They will give us news. “
