Explosion in Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan: at least three people are missing
At least three people are missing from following the explosion of a propane distribution business late Thursday morning in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan, in Lanaudière. Employees are still believed to be trapped inside the burning building, but firefighters are having difficulty approaching the building. We still cannot confirm whether there are injuries or deaths.
The mayor of Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan, Sébastien Marcil, expressed his concern about the situation: “We asks people to respect the perimeter of operations. The Lafortunes are well known in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan, so we hope that the worst has been avoided.”
Due to the potential danger of new explosions, houses located within a radius of a kilometer were evacuated because of the risks.
The power of the explosion would have even raised the roof of the Propane Lafortune business, subsequently causing a fire in the building.
