After Vincent Van Gogh, it is it's the turn of the iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and her particular imagination to be at the heart of an immersive exhibition at the Arsenal of Contemporary Art. Montreal is the city chosen for the great North American premiere of Frida Kahlo, the life of an icon, the only official world exhibition dedicated to the artist.

By her line of eyebrows surmounted by a bun adorned with flowers, the artist is recognizable in the four corners of the planet. But what's behind that iconic face? Through seven different transformation spaces, the public truly enters the mind of one of the most influential painters in history. Did you know, for example, that Frida Kahlo had studied to become a doctor or that she was a fervent defender of communist ideologies?

In addition to tracing his story with the help of historical photographs and biographical texts, the exhibition immerses us in the most significant moments of his life, such as this terrible bus accident which will upset his destiny. As much as art lovers, fans of digital technology and those inspired by the message and journey of Frida Kahlo will find what they are looking for in this exhibition.

Thanks to unique installations and virtual reality experiences, we also witness a visual journey illustrating both the environment in which the famous painter evolved and her pictorial universe. The immersive 3D multimedia transports us in particular to bed of the artist, in which she was nailed most of her time after her accident. As on a boat, we navigate through her famous blue house and the city of Mexico where she lived.

One of the seven rooms even reproduces the atmosphere of a Mexican café where you can stop to color and display your own work using a projector. Finally, like the self-portraits that Frida Kahlo used to paint, the last part of the exhibition makes it possible to immortalize her visit in photos.
