“Hydro-Quebec should not become Hydro-Legault”
Sophie Brochu is stepping down barely three years into her term.
Québec solidaire is asking the government of François Legault to hold a parliamentary commission to hear Sophie Brochu in the National Assembly about her strategic plan before she officially leaves the management of Hydro-Québec.
QS says it fears that the personal aims of Energy Superminister Pierre Fitzgibbon have taken precedence over energy transition goals.
“Hydro-Quebec should not become Hydro-Legault. The energy transition cannot be planned behind closed doors, let alone in the mind of Pierre Fitzgibbon. Hydro-Québec must not become the instrument of a single man, it is an important collective tool for the people of Quebec. While the Prime Minister is talking about carbon neutrality, his favorite minister seems to want to sell Quebec electricity at a discount to attract multinationals. It deserves a real transparent debate.”
Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois specifies that the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) had undertaken to hold such a hearing at the Blue Room by adopting a motion on March 24, 2022, but this never took place.
Recall that François Legault wishes to meet with the opposition parties to hear their ideas on Quebec’s energy policy as well as on the other challenges of 2023.
