Increase of 2.2 % and property taxes in Matane
The taxpayers of Matane will see their property tax bill increase of 2.2 %, which is roughly equal to the consumer price index (CPI) of Québec, which is 2.3 %. The rise is, however, superior to the CPI of Canada, which is 1.9 %. Therefore, the owner of an average home valued at $ 150,000 will have to pay 45 $ to 60 $ more, depending on the area where he lives.
Therefore, the property tax increase of 11 cents per $ 100 of assessment for fall with $ 1.37 per $ 100 evaluation. The agricultural buildings will benefit from relief of the land. Thus, the tax will decrease to $ 1.26 per share to $ 1.09 per $ 100 of assessment.
During an extraordinary session held on Tuesday, the city council adopted a balanced budget for 2020 of $ 33.7 million, an increase of 6 % compared to the previous year. The elect have taken the opportunity to adopt the capital program for 2020-2021-2022, referred to as “bold”.
The taxes represent $ 24.1 million in revenue. Furthermore, the value of the role of assessment will decrease to 3.2% in 2020. On the other hand, a bonus on public subsidies and the increase in the value of government-owned buildings will generate an additional source of income in fees of the order of 550 000 $ more. This will reduce the impact on the income taxes of citizens.
Airport and pool
The three year capital works program provides for investments of $ 26.5 million in 2020, on a total of 72.7 million $ distributed over three years. A portion of these investments is, however, conditional on obtaining grants. One of the main projects which will be realised in 2020, we should note the work planned at the Airport Russell-Burnett for a cost of $ 9.8 million. As to the municipal swimming pool, $ 7.6 million will be allocated over a total three-year $16.8 million.
The city council intends to adopt the near future, the strategic planning of the City of Matane for the period from 2020 to 2024. It is an ambitious plan that aims to increase the population and collective wealth, whether by the contrasts presented by the territory of the City of Matane, with its vast nature, by its town centre with an urban flare, or by its industry ecosystem.
