René-Charles Quirion La Tribune A nebulous case of kidnapping an American couple had its outcome in Magog, Tuesday around 5 pm.
James Helm Sr. and Sandra Helm, who reside in Moira, New York, had been missing since last Sunday.
Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec found the couple in their seventies safe and sound in Estrie.
Five individuals from Quebec, aged 36 to 75, were arrested in this case.
“We proceeded to arrest these suspects. They have been questioned. Charges could be brought against them, but we do not yet know where ”, explains the spokesperson for the SQ, Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay.
It is the investigators of crimes against the person who are carrying out this investigation in collaboration with the American authorities.
The United States Federal Police (FBI), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the New York State Police, Akwesasne Mohawk Police and various municipal police forces have participated in the investigation into this case.
“We still have very few details about this case. We don't yet know where, when and how they crossed the border, ”said Sergeant Tremblay.
