Marc Bergevin was believed to have found the guardian ideal to Keith Kinkaid to lighten the workload of Carey Price this season. Two months after the start of the campaign, the director general of the Montreal canadiens is back to square one.

The Habs had submitted the name of Kinkaid to tie on Monday, before recalling the young goalie Cayden Primeau, a club-school, the Rocket de Laval, as well as the attacker’s Matthew Peca.

In six outings this season, including five starts, Kinkaid has compiled a record of 1-1-3 with a mean of 4.24 and an efficiency rate of ,875. He had signed a contract for one season and 1.75 million US$, on the 1st of July last, as the player stand-alone.

“If it is not claimed in the runoff, he will have the opportunity to play more often at Laval, said the head coach of the Canadian, Claude Julien. He has to find his timing, his game. What we have seen of him, it was good, but not good enough for the moment. We need a sitter to point. This was not the case now.

“We are going to offer him the chance to play more often to see if he can regain his confidence.”

Primeau, who is 20 years old, is in his first campaign in professional hockey. In 12 games with the Rocket, the choice of the seventh round, 199th total, by 2017 has a record of 7-4-1 with a mean of 2.58 and an efficiency rate of ,910.

Somehow, Kinkaid has paid for the failure of the whole team, which has lost its last eight games. Kinkaid had harvested two of the three points of the Habs in the course of this sequence.

“Since I’m here, when we don’t meet the expectations, there is a change, noted the attacker Brendan Gallagher. This is the reality of the NHL and the Montreal market. If the players want to stay together, to keep the same group, it is up to them to get the results.

“[Kinkaid], this is a good team-mate. I hope that we will review here. But this is the reality of hockey.”

Mete on the sidelines two weeks

The Canadian has also announced that defenceman Victor Mete is absentera for a period of at least two weeks because of an injury to an ankle.

In regard to Mete, he was injured during the second period of the game on Saturday, against the Philadelphia Flyers. He joins forwards Jonathan Drouin and Paul Byron to the infirmary.

In 26 games this season, Mete has tallied three goals and five helpers.

“Injuries are part of hockey,” said defender Jeff Petry. We were in the face of adversity with our attackers; now, it is with a defender.”

In addition, the center Phillip Danault has not participated in the training on ice, Monday, enjoying, rather, a day of treatments. Julien, however, has confirmed that Danault will be training on Tuesday, facing the New York Islanders.

As for Peca, he totalled four goals and 12 points in 18 meetings with Laval this season. In 39 meetings with the Habs last year, Peca scored three goals and collected 10 points.

26-year-old, he has amassed six goals and 17 points in 59 career games in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal.
