Legal aid on strike as of Thursday
Legal aid lawyers will begin a strike on Thursday which could last until April 17, unless an agreement with the government is reached before planned walkout. The latter have been without a collective agreement since December 2019 and are demanding the maintenance of their pay parity with Crown prosecutors.
Legal aid lawyers have filed applications with the court to have postpone the hearings that were scheduled during the strike period. The regions affected by this strike are Montreal, Laval, Montérégie, the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
