A major fire was reported a little before 22h Wednesday in an industrial building in Saint-Romuald. Several staged explosion occurred before the fire department arrives.
“It is a large industrial building and commercial which is approximately 600 feet long and 150 feet wide,” says the deputy director of the fire Department of the City of Lévis, Richard Amyot.
The arrival of the fire brigade on 5th street St-Romuald, the flames were intense, the fire spread rapidly throughout the large building.
“The building has various utilities, such as a garage for the mechanics and maintenance. There were a lot of bottles of acid full and other gases, which creates a staged explosion that has accelerated the spread of the fire,” added Mr. Amyot.
The forty firefighters on the scene have used a defensive method to fight the flames. “There is no life threatened, no one was inside so for the safety of the staff, we do that.”
The fire ring a fifth alarm. At midnight, firefighters tried always to put out the fire, very “vigorous”. Five fire engines and two ladders aerial have been requested on the scene.
