Major fire: one person is missing
A major fire is currently taking place in a heritage building in Old Montreal.
One person has been missing since the start of a destructive fire, declared at 5:45 a.m. this morning in the Old Port. Another person reportedly jumped from the second story of the burning apartment building.
The Montreal Fire Department (SIM) is working with officers from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) to find the missing person. Firefighters are still unable to enter the building despite the fire being brought under control. They try to cool the blaze.
Nine people were transported to hospitals. Three of them are suffering from burns to their respiratory tract and are in critical condition.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
