Meta prepares a new social network
Meta is working on a new social network, whose model would be similar to that of Twitter. The new creation of the parent company of Facebook and Instagram could well become a potential competitor of the platform owned by Elon Musk.
“We are thinking about a decentralized and independent social network allowing to share written messages in real time”, informs Meta in a statement sent by AFP. The news had also been relayed by the Platformer site.
According to information from this site, Meta's future social network will be interoperable, so that it can work with other networks of the same type, such as Mastodon .
The practice is not customary for tech giants, who usually favor closed environments, governed by their own rules of use. For example, Mastodon is operated through decentralized servers, with no central management and decision-making authority.
This news comes as Twitter has been going through a rough patch since its takeover by business tycoon Elon Musk. Indeed, the main advertisers of the social network had announced their withdrawal after Musk rehabilitated the accounts of certain controversial users.
Recall that on February 19, Zuckerberg announced the launch of a paid subscription, allowing users to authenticate on the group's platforms. The maneuver was also reminiscent of the “Blue” subscription offered by Twitter.
