Businessman Michael Sabia will become the new President and CEO of Hydro-Québec. He will succeed Sophie Brochu.

Mr. Sabia led the Caisse de depot et placement du Québec (CDPQ) from 2009 to 2020, in addition to having launched the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) project. He was also appointed Deputy Minister in Chrystia Freeland's Department of Finance.

Recall that Sophie Brochu had left her position at the state-owned company two years before the end of her mandate, a few months after having expressed his disagreement with the orientations of the Legault government. Pierre Despars is currently the interim president and CEO of Hydro-Québec.

Last week, the minister responsible for the Crown corporation, Pierre Fitzgibbon, said his government had found the person who would replace Ms. Brochu. According to La Presse, Michael Sabia is the choice of François Legault. His appointment of Mr. Sabia must be endorsed by the Council of Ministers before the end of the month.
