Pedestrian dies on Highway 20
A 26-year-old woman died last night in the Dorval area, after being hit by several vehicles on Highway 20 East. Around 1:20 a.m., the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was called to intervene in a case of collision involving a pedestrian.
The victim was walking on foot prior to the accident. His death was pronounced on the spot.
“The circumstances surrounding his presence on the highway remain unclear. Reconstruction specialists went on site to conduct an investigation,” said Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
The victim Nellie Niviaxie, whose identity has been made public , is a resident of Umiujaq in Nunavik.
This is the second tragedy of this type to occur this weekend. During the night from Friday to Saturday, another Aboriginal woman had lost her life on the 520 highway, caught while she was traveling in a wheelchair.
