Permanent closure of La Belle Province in the Quartier des Spectacles

It's over for the iconic La Belle Province restaurant located at the intersection of rue Sainte-Catherine Est and boulevard Saint Laurent. It will no longer serve poutines or hot dogs in the middle of the night to partygoers in the Quartier des spectacles. The establishment has officially closed its doors without warning.

We do not yet know the reasons for this permanent closure, but the building housing the famous restaurant has been displaying “For rent” for several months already. The pandemic has been tough on many businesses that have suffered a similar fate over the past two years. Another La Belle Province restaurant, located in LaSalle, had to close its doors last November, weakened by COVID-19 and the high inflation rate.

There is no shortage of fast food in this sector of the city – the Montreal Pool Room is a stone's throw away, in particular – but after closing from the Archambault store located a little further at the corner of rue Berri, another big piece of history leaves us.
