Pierre Kwenders takes you on a journey with “José Louis and the Paradox of Love”
José Louis and the Paradox of Love, third solo album by singer-songwriter Pierre Kwenders, begins with a long electronic piece of more than nine minutes, produced in collaboration with Win Butler of Arcade Fire and DJ King Britt, and ends with a song on which an African choir from Montreal shines.
Between these two tracks, one of them very different On the other, the artist offers a joyful musical journey recorded over four years in several cities around the world. Collaborators from all over join him. They sing in Lingala, French, English, Tshiluba and Kikongo. We touch in particular on electronics, pop and rumba. They play the guitar, the trumpet, but also the mbira, a plucked idiophone from Zimbabwe.
Reflecting his cultural heritage, the Montreal artist, born in Congo, presents an album rich and diverse that finds a surprising cohesion in its freedom. His songs, romantic, even sexy, will make you want to dance (lasciviously), to sing and to love.
José Louis and the Paradox of Love is available on listening platforms.
Album launch on May 6 at Center Phi.
