Power outages: repairs will stretch until tomorrow
The strong winds that have blown over Quebec since the day before have caused many blackouts in the Montreal region, but also in Montérégie, the Laurentians and Lanaudière. More than 400 fitters were hard at work across the province on Sunday morning to restore service to as many residents as possible. In an update released at 9:23 a.m., the crown corporation warns, however, that efforts to redress the situation will have to continue on Monday.
There were 130 service disruptions in the Montreal area, around 11:45 a.m. on Sunday , while 15,989 customers out of 1,072,128 found themselves in a situation of power failure.
“In particular, there is a lot of work to be done to clear fallen trees and branches on our network and to carry out the necessary repairs. In many places, it will be necessary to replace one or more wooden poles, ”explains the state-owned company.
Hydro-Québec also specifies on Twitter that the places with power failure and which present immediate dangers such as wires on the ground, sparks are prioritized by repair teams. Essential public services, including hospitals, drinking water plants, police and fire stations, and senior citizens' centers are also given priority.
“Thereafter, recovery prioritizes repairs allowing a maximum number of customers to be reconnected. If a repair allows 5,000 customers to reconnect at once, it will be prioritized over a repair that allows 4 to reconnect “, explains the state-owned company on its Twiter account.
