PQ deputies will try to sit without taking an oath to the king
The three deputies of the Parti Québécois (PQ) will try Thursday to enter the the National Assembly without having taken the oath to the king, thus defying the ban on sitting issued by the former president of the Assembly, François Paradis. The leader of the PQ, Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon, made the announcement this afternoon at a press briefing at the National Assembly.
The party leader asks the new president, Nathalie Roy, elected earlier today, to reconsider the decision of her predecessor and “follow the opinion of the majority of Quebeckers” by allowing the PQ to sit.
“There is no there is no reason to block the path of duly elected people who have sworn an oath to the people of Quebec and to its constitution,” he said.
