Rapid tests distributed to all primary schools

Quebec will distribute rapid tests for COVID-19 that can be used at home in all elementary schools in the province.

These rapid screening tests are intended for students in preschool and primary schools. Indeed, despite the vaccination campaign that has begun for children aged 5 to 11, they are not adequately protected for the moment.

Each student will receive a kit with five rapid tests in their school bag. These tests can be used when a child has any symptoms similar to those of COVID-19.

In the event of a positive result, parents should go with the child to a screening center in their region to confirm the result by a laboratory test.

The Department of Health and Social Services will take care of the distribution starting this week. The tests will first be distributed to regions where the epidemiological situation is of greatest concern. The other regions will receive their tests the week of December 13.

Ultimately, more than three million tests will be distributed to parents of preschool and elementary school students.
