Snow covers BIXIs after a spring snowstorm.

Bicycle sharing is gaining ground in Montreal. BIXI recorded a 55% increase in its traffic and more than 30% in the number of its members. These numbers rise above the company’s predictions, and all of its previous seasons.

The number of different users has almost reached 52% in one year. From April 13 to November 15, nearly nine million trips were made in Laval, Longueuil and Montreal.

“BIXI remains a world leader in self-service bicycles, whether regular or electrically assisted, thus making tangible the actions that make it possible to move towards the objective of carbon neutrality in the country thanks to to access to solar and electric energy,” comments BIXI Montreal’s General Manager, Christian Vermette.

Electric bikes have been particularly popular this year. These bicycles were used on average 24% more often than regular ones.

“Acknowledged as one of the major international trends, electric micromobility represents a new way of getting around that addresses both the concerns current issues related to sustainable development, traffic congestion and rising gas prices. The electric bike also aims to encourage new customers to abandon the solo car, ”says the member of the board of directors of the company Alexandre Taillefer.

The BIXI user satisfaction rate was 88% for the last season.
