Salmonella: reminder of chicken nuggets Janes

Sofina Foods Inc. is issuing a Janes brand Pub Style Chicken Pie Recall because this product may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The affected product should not be consumed. These are the Pub Style Chicken Nuggets – Uncooked Breaded Chicken Stews in the 800g format with an expiry date of December 15, 2019 (UPC: 0 69299 12490 3).

Consumers who have this product at home are advised to dispose of it or bring it back to the store where it was purchased, says the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

Foods contaminated with Salmonella do not necessarily have visible discolouration or a suspicious odor, but can still make them sick, the CFIA reports.

Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems can contract serious and sometimes fatal infections.

In healthy people, salmonellosis may manifest as short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Salmonellosis can lead to long-term complications, including severe arthritis, says the CFIA.
