The strong winds that swept across the province last night plunged thousands of Quebec homes into darkness. At the height of the evening, 70,000 Hydro-Québec customers were without electricity, according to the Info-pannes site of the state-owned company.

If the situation has been restored for many sectors, 15,000 homes remain without electricity on Sunday morning. The sectors mainly affected are Montérégie and Montreal.

As of this writing, nine outages affecting 1535 customers are in progress on the Island of Montreal.

“The strong winds that blew last night in southwestern Quebec caused power outages. Our teams are working to restore service as quickly as possible,” said Hydro-Québec.
