TAMPA, Fla. — The Canadian has known a beginning of the game is almost perfect, but the Tampa Bay Lightning has managed to turn the tide and eventually defeated montreal 5-4, on Saturday night.
The Habs led 2-0 after 10 minutes of play, but the Lightning came to life and scored the following four goals to win.
“I think we played an excellent first period, except during the last two minutes, noted the head coach of the Canadian, Claude Julien. We have given you a purpose, then we have not sent the puck in the back of their box, and they almost scored a second in the last minute. It’s given them confidence and they come out strong in the second period.”
Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Max Domi, Ben Chiarot and Jordan Weal have hit the target for the Canadian (18-14-6). Carey Price was pushed out of 25 throws.
Domi, Artturi Lehkonen, Nick Suzuki were out on the rink on the last four goals for the Lightning and they ended the evening each minus-3.
“We need more of this trio-there. You can’t give up four goals like that, ” admitted Julien. It doesn’t mean that it is only their fault. There are also two defenders on the ice. But they have had difficulty in countering the trio of (Steven) Stamkos.”
Alex Killorn has tallied two goals and an assist, Steven Stamkos and Anthony Cirelli had raised each a goal and an assist, while Mitchell Stephens also scored for the Lightning (19-13-4). Victor Hedman has earned four helpers.
The guardian of the Lightning Andrei Vasilevskiy has made 39 stops and has brought his record to 9-0-2 in his last 11 outings against the Habs.
The Canadian has outrageously dominated the game in the beginning of the meeting, unchecking the first 18 shots on goal.
Kotkaniemi, that was back in the game after missing eight games because of a concussion, opened the scoring after 2:08 of the game, then Domi has also hit the target at 10:00. Domi tapped and at least one point in a fifth match on.
Several spectators cheered sarcastically the first shot of the Lightning after 12:25 of the game, a shot by Tyler Johnson easily mastered by Price.
The Lightning, however, managed to give a boost in reducing the gap with 58,9 seconds to make the first twenty. Killorn has played in luck when a throw from Ryan McDonagh has been reached, allowing him to push the disc into an open net.
Stamkos then tied it after 1:34 of the game in the second period, becoming the third player in the history of the Lightning to reach the plateau of 800 points with the team after Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St-Louis.
Stephens finally gave the lead to the Lightning at 4:56, taking advantage of his own rebound to score first NHL goal. Killorn returned to the load at 12:00 and Julian has asked for a time arrest for whipping his troops.
Julien could not have hoped for a better reaction from his players, as Chiarot has narrowed the gap to 4-3 just 13 seconds later.
However, Cirelli has restored a two-goal lead for the home team after 55 seconds of the game in the third period.
The Lightning was found on two occasions in numerical inferiority and the Canadian has managed to reduce the gap to only one goal during the second occasion. Weal has performed with 1:28 to go. However, the attempted comeback of the Habs came up short.
The Canadian will play again on Sunday, when he will visit the Panthers of Florida.
