Bordeaux prison inmate Nicous D’Andre Spring, who died following an intervention by correctional officers, was due to be released the day before his death. He was therefore in illegal detention, according to La Presse. The Ministry of Public Security (MSP) has confirmed that an administrative investigation will be conducted by the Directorate of Internal Audit, Investigations and Inspection (DAIEI).

M . Spring, 21, was granted a video appearance on December 23 for an inquest into his release, but was still being held on December 24, the day of his death. He was facing several charges of assault, possession of a weapon and failure to comply with an order.

It should be remembered that he died following an intervention during which cayenne pepper was used, causing the inmate to feel unwell. A correctional officer was suspended following this event.
