LONDON — Queen became on Monday the first rock band to be honored with a coin from collection in the Uk at the top of that throne, among other instruments, the piano of his late singer Freddie Mercury.
Queen, “one of the rock groups the most iconic of all time,” inaugurates a series of pieces devoted to the legends of the music, emphasizes the royal institute of the british royal mint, Royal Mint, on its website.
The design of the piece brings together the instruments of each of the founding members of the band : the guitar red Brian May, bass by John Deacon, drums by Roger Taylor and the piano of Freddie Mercury, whose keys play notes at the beginning of Bohemian Rhapsody. In the center is the inscription “Queen” highlighted by a microphone.
“This is really a moment where we think’ who could imagine such a thing?” for us. When we started, even the first rung of the ladder of fame seemed unattainable,” said Brian May in a press release by the record company Universal. “Our band and our music to be recognized is very touching, and a real honor,” he added.
The price of these limited edition pieces intended for collectors ranges from 13 £ (22 $) for a room of 5 £ (8,50 $), up to 2020 £ (3400 $) for the part golden of £ 100 (170 $).
