The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has suspended the installation of next-generation turnstiles and gates in its metro network, as some of them are defective. This postponement will allow the supplier, Conduent Business Solutions, to solve the technical problems of the terminals and limit the negative impacts on metro users.

These issues will not have to ;impact on the future deployment of payment by credit card at turnstiles, which are already equipped with the necessary hardware components to allow reading more than the various current media.

During the official launch of the works in July 2022 , the STM had indicated that the replacement of the turnstiles and gates would be completed in February 2023.

“We are working with the supplier to resolve the issues identified as soon as possible. At all times, as soon as we notice non-functional turnstiles, our teams are dispatched to the scene to take stock of the problem, plan an intervention or repair it on site if possible”, specifies by email the corporate advisor for the STM, Justine Dufour-Lord.

Recall that in July 2022 the STM undertook the renovation of its turnstiles and gates with a new generation of equipment which, in time, will allow network users to pay their passage with a credit card. The turnstiles were 99.75% functional during the week of March 7 to 13, indicating that the situation is not critical.
