The MNBAQ acquires a Lemieux
The Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec announced Wednesday a major acquisition : “The disciples of Emmaus” by Jean Paul Lemieux.
The painting joins a collection already impressive québécois painter composed a hundred works (including 45 paintings). The figurehead of the modern art in quebec has made this work in 1940, the first of a series of four, said of the “period primitiviste” of the artist.
Visitors will be able to see The disciples of Emmaus in the heart of the exhibition Of silence and space as well as Gabrielle Roy (1953), a portrait of the author lent to the MNBAQ by the canadian Institute of Quebec.
