< p> The NBC television channel had even given up broadcasting the ceremony, which had been followed in recent years by millions of viewers, and the event did not take off on Twitter, where fans were more concerned about the death, announced in the evening, by American actor Bob Saget.
Officially, the organizers invoked the pandemic. But the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which is piloting the gala, has long been accused of a string of flaws, ranging from corruption to racism.
The Los Angeles Times has showed that the association had no black people among its members, opening the floodgates of criticism last year. Tom Cruise returned his awards in a gesture of protest.
Since the scandal broke, the association has been quick to launch reforms, especially to diversify its membership.
She also banned the latter from accepting luxury gifts or hotel stays from studios wooing them for their votes.
Thanks on Twitter
Les Young West Side Story actresses reacted to their victory on Twitter, with Rachel Zegler noting that she received her Globe exactly three years after being chosen by Steven Spielberg out of 30,000 applicants. “Life is very strange,” she wrote.
Ariana DeBose thanked the HFPA while calling for reforms: “There is still work to be done, but when you've worked so hard on a project – with blood, sweat, tears and love – the fact that this work is seen and recognized will always be special, ”she tweeted.
Despite this leaden atmosphere, the three Globes awarded to The Power of the Dog and West Side Story confirm their status as contenders for award season, which culminates in March with the Oscars.
